Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired the second meeting of the Steering Committee on Inflationary Trends to discuss strategies to control rising prices amid recent floods. The meeting focused on protecting vulnerable and low-income households from inflationary pressures.
Addressing the committee, Aurangzeb emphasized that controlling inflation and maintaining price stability remain top government priorities. He reassured citizens that artificial inflation will not be tolerated and that authorities will act promptly against unfair pricing practices.
The Finance Minister highlighted that the country has ample wheat reserves, while rice and sugarcane crops faced only minor damage. He urged the committee to closely monitor market developments and coordinate policy responses across federal and provincial levels.
The meeting reviewed essential food items, including onions, tomatoes, rice, wheat, sugar, and edible oil. Members examined supply disruptions, stock positions, and import requirements, ensuring that accurate data informs timely administrative measures to safeguard consumer purchasing power.
Preparations for the upcoming sowing season were also discussed, emphasizing timely availability of seeds and agricultural inputs. Aurangzeb directed institutions like NDMA, SUPARCO, and Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to coordinate with provinces for precise crop damage assessments.
The meeting included federal secretaries and senior officials from Finance, Power, Petroleum, Planning, Food Security, State Bank, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute. Together, they aim to implement proactive measures to contain inflation and stabilize the economy.
