LARKANA: the provincial health department has issued instructions regarding the examination of rape cases.
The department in order to facilitate victims has directed all the Police Surgeons and other related officers in the province to follow these instructions in letter and spirit. These instructions have been circulated through a letter and they call for setting up of special rooms for interview and examination in full privacy by a female doctor in the presence of female attendant or a relative identified by the victim.
The relevant women medico-legal officer/hospital staff must cooperate with the police and relatives of the victim. The doctor should take required samples and handover the same to the concerned police. In case the police is not accompanying with the victim the samples should be preserved in pathological facility.
The medical examination report should not be cursory but should contain particulars as age of the rape victim, further, the examination report clearly mentioning the time of examination should be sent to the investigation officer without any delay. The examining doctor should conduct examination diligently and mention all findings clearly.
And in case she feels any difficulty she may obtain expert opinion from Gynecologist, stated the instructions.
