ISLAMABAD: The weather would remain both hot and dry during the weekend across the country, and additional showers of pre-monsoon rains are expected by the next week, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Senior Meteorologist at PMD, Farooq Dar, told media sources that more pre-monsoon showers are likely, during the next week in different parts of the country, especially in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that mainly hot and dry weather will prevail in most parts of the country during the weekend, with high chances of rain in Kashmir and surrounding areas. Dar noted that there are high chances of rain-thunderstorm in different parts of the country in the evening on July 19 and in the morning on July 20. There are also chances of rain-thunderstorm in upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 21 to July 24, Dar added. According to the synoptic analysis, a low pressure was lying over central parts of the country with its trough extending south-eastward. Weak moist currents from Arabian sea continue to penetrate the country and are likely to continue doing so in the next two days. The westerly wave is still affecting Kashmir and its adjoining areas. The rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours was 48 mm in Lahore; 29 mm in Lahore Airport; 34 mm in Jhelum; 14 mm in Mandibahauddin, 01 mm in Rawalpindi in the Punjab province, 9 mm in Mirkhani; 07 mm in Dir, Kalam and Parachinar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 02 mm in Lower Dir and Drosh ; 05 mm in Kashmir and Muzaffarabad;03 mm in Hunza and Astore and 01mm in Gilgit in Gilgit-Baltistan.
