ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties held a meeting today with the members of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) to clarify the latter’s position on the issue of forming a judicial probe committee for Panama leaks investigation.
The meeting was chaired by the leader of the opposition Khursheed Ahmed Shah, and was attended by Aitzaz Ahsan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Farooq Sattar, Sheik Salahuddin and Muzzamil Qureshi among others. Khursheed said that it was sad to see that MQM has broken away from the joint opposition. He also said that leaders of MQM should have communicated their grievances to the joint opposition before deciding to leave the joint opposition.
He also said that if MQM wants to stay part of the joint opposition, it has to make an announcement in the house expressing its explicit willingness to continue as part of the joint opposition.
In response to Khursheed’s statement, Farooq Sattar said that it was beyond understanding why MQM was not included as part of opposition. He said that they have complains over being ignored and now even if they are not included as part of the joint opposition, they are still part of the opposition.
After a three-hour long meeting between the MQM and the joint opposition parties an interesting development has surfaced. MQM has signaled its willingness to stand by the joint opposition parties in the case of forming a judicial committee to investigate Panama Papers allegations against PRIME Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.
Khursheed said that instead of Aftab Sherpao, now the MQM will name one member of their own party for the final committee on TORs. According to sources, the person named by MQM is Barrister Saif, whose name will submitted to the Senate chairman for the final committee to be formulated.
