Push Your Competition to the Next Page

Posted on 06 February 2009 by Carl Martens

Seeing double on a Google Search Engine Result Page (SERP) is not a glitch…it is actually a very good thing. When a site displays twice on a SERP we call the instance “indents” or “double listings”. Site architecture and link strategies are what produce these double listings.

Not the best example of nich saturation, but a good example of a double listing.

It isn’t good enough just being #1, or #2, or numbers 1-3 for a specific search phrase in your given niche…you must strive to achieve niche saturation.

Niche saturation is about displacing your competition. It’s about creating the illusion of greater choice to searchers and funneling money to your pocket.

How did this happen?  You need to have 2 relevant pages.   Both pages need to have keywords in the title.  Then interlink each page with relevant anchor-text containing those keywords.  Be sure the Titles aren’t identical and then use a “feeder” site to gain an external link to each of the pages with the appropriate anchor text.

Use keywords in your title and link to them heavily within your site/blog.  Then whenever you write a follow-up article the appropriate posts will already be interlinked with the other as long as your titles are common (not identical).  As far as the “feeder” – just use a site already in your control that matches in relevance (or find a relevant forum) – this can be in industry or geography (better if both).  Also, use a different domain while trying to saturate, you only get a single indent per domain.

5 Ways to Generate Traffic to Your Blog

Posted on 04 February 2009 by Carl Martens

Below are five proven techniques that are sure to generate traffic to your blog or website.

  1. Content is king – the more relevant content to your niche you have the more traffic you’ll get.  Remember, search engines are in the business of providing relevant content per given search.
  2. Post regularly – early on this is very important as initially you will have very little content.  Posting regularly will show activity on your site and attract search engine spiders to crawl and re-index your site.
  3. Seek others – find mentors in the blogging community, follow their blogs and from time to time ask if it is alright to repost their articles on your site (this will help with content). Use different title tags, descriptions, and keywords…this will differentiate the post from the source in the eyes of the search engines.
  4. Write guest posts – offer to write guest posts on already established sites in exchange for backlinks to your site.  This is a great way to quickly gain traffic to yourself as well as quality backlinks from already established sites.
  5. Network – I have yet to meet a fellow blogger that isn’t willing to help out another.  Connect with others and ask questions and share themes, plugins, ideas, etc.
